Just a few links to tide you over.
Anne R. Allen has an absolutely fascinating look at the trials and tribulations of getting song lyrics into a published story. I had an idea that it was a difficult (and undoubtedly expensive) process, and just the thought of it meant that a lot of my stuff that includes song lyrics are not going to be put forward for publication. After reading this, I am glad that is what I’ve decided to do. But for any authors, it is certainly a fascinating read. And though it is America-centric, I think it applies just as well here in Australia.
Now Novel has a short, sharp and shiny post on 7 mistakes writers make. All of them are relevent, and as the title asks ‘Do You Make These 7 Mistakes?’… well, I only make 4… maybe 5…
Now for something that I think many authors could use – a glossary of terms used when it comes to payment and some other bits and pieces for writing things, collated by Kerry Lipp. The best comment, though, is the description of the $5 Amazon short story. Nice.
And finally, something for all budding sci-fi or fantasy authors. A reference that is as invaluable as it is fascinating. Peter’s Evil Overlord List by Peter Anspach. Read the list, then read the other lists, and then think about every sci-fi film you’ve ever seen, book you’ve ever read, TV show you’ve ever watched, and work out how different they would have been if the Evil Overlords had followed this list. I have been trying to write a book based on this list for quite a while, but I honestly cannot see how the good guys could possibly ever win.
So, enjoy some reading.
