Back in July I decided to try my hand at writing for a website that was looking for people in Adelaide (so I was led to believe). They wanted local reviews of things like cafes, playgrounds, parks, zoos, and stuff like that. A few times a week a mass email goes out to a large number of people, where the best are highlighted, and the email recipients are encouraged to look for more suggestions on the website.
So I wrote a few, got a few hits, but ran out of ideas really quickly. And then TAFE studies took over and life in general took over, so I got slack. Well, since the middle of October, I’ve started again.
I have a nice portfolio there now of around 20 articles, most of them about playgrounds and reserves (because, let’s face it, I have two young children and we don’t have computer games), but I also discovered that we could write pretty much everything once we were established on the site.
So here’s an article about the 5 most bizarre elements of Christmas pop culture, and here’s another one about the 5 worst Christmas movies I’ve ever seen. They are probably the best of the two. I’d like one day to be able to write for Cracked.com, but I really need to work on my humour chops for a while before I do that. A long while.
For families especially, it’s a good site for trying to find things to do, but, like I said, it’s a nice writing gig for me.
Hope you enjoy it.
