A few bits and pieces.
First, Cult Of The Snake, Gorgon With The Wind, Year Of Change and Patch Of Green have all been rejected recently.
Rejection total: 158+ 4 = 162
Yes, the rejections are still coming thick and fast. Added to that at least 5 short story rejections (including from an Australian anthology), and it’s been “one of those months”.
Next, I thought I had a story accepted for a drabble anthology, had signed a contract, everything else, but when the TOC came out I was not in there. I asked them what was happening, they said they lost my story so could I forward it again, and they’d try to fit it in, but I missed their deadline, so it’s now a non-go-er. Sort of a rejection, then. Still “one of those months.”
For what it’s worth, the contract actually says a story may be “taken from the final publication” if the editors so see fit, so I don’t even have a leg to stand on legally.
Finally, I am in the midst of one of my longest periods of writer’s block in quite a few years. I can start stories, but am having trouble finishing them. A longer work not in the speculative fiction field has just cracked 4000 words, so we’ll see how that goes over the next few months.
So that’s why this place has been quiet as of late. All the news is, well, not good news. To steal a phrase from someone whose name escapes me: Some days you’re the dog, others you’re the fire hydrant.
