Novel #28

Last one! (So far…)

This will be it, getting me up-to-date with the novels/longer works. 28 of them, plus all the novellas (both mentioned and not mentioned). I guess that’s a lot for a few years of writing, even if most of them are crap. This story also marked the 4,000,000th word of completed work I have done. You can more than double that with works that remain incomplete, but 4 million completed words feels like an accomplishment. I said “feels”… doesn’t mean it is…

First, you may notice there is no Excerpt from this novel. That is because I have been asked not to include one. An agent from the US was intrigued enough by Relick to want to see my “latest” humour story. Well, this one that was finished literally last weekend is it. I was going to wait to post this until he rejected/accepted it, but that could take up to 3 months.

Gorgon With The Wind is an urban fantasy/mythological/humorous story. Set in an unnamed American city, a young man named Jason is apparently the latest in a long line of Zeus’ illegitimate children, and he meets up with Brigid, Aphrodite’s grand-daughter. He is strong but not the brightest bulb in the pack, while she is feisty, intelligent and everything else the woman behind the man should be. However, the Greek gods are planning a comeback by bringing back the monsters of old, all new and improved. But they don’t factor in a hero. Jason is yet another emo-like character at times, but that fits in with him.

Unlike Relick, the humour is a little more gentle and subtle at times, and I think at least a working knowledge of Greek mythology might be needed in order to appreciate it. As for the title, I posted the question on my FaceBook page and this one was the winner. I even have a cover in mind, based on the film poster. I have the ideas for a sequel based around the Norse gods, but I’m not sure how to end it.

So despite being finished literally 5 days ago (and still in its second draft form), this is already out there!

Now, rejections. I recently went back and read these blog posts and noticed I included some novellas, and not others. So I’ve decided to add the rest of the novella rejections, totalling 33:
Rejection total: 114 + 33 = 147
Now,
Patch Of Green was rejected again this week as well:
Rejection total: 148 + 1 = 149
And finally I also saw that I included some novel writing/novella contests and not others, so let’s include all of the rest of them:
Rejection total: 149 + 9 = 158
