Goodnight Goodnight

The oldest of my recent publications, this book started my renewed interest in publishing. The winners of the 2009 Wirra Wirra writing prize in South Australia were published in the book Goodnight Goodnight. It was at the book launch where I managed to get myself a few good contacts and make some strong writing friendships.
Though it’s not available for purchase any longer.

My story was ‘People Of The Earth’, about an old Aboriginal man who gets the best of a mining magnate.

The book itself, though, was filled with depressing stories. Even my wife thought it was mostly depressing. This marks a problem with Australian publishers and competitions – they like downbeat things with a deep “message” or none too subtle “meaning”. This book is an unfortunate example of that.
